non-public properties, or surface water from public roads and spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Property owners generally bear the costs of disposing of and treating foul water and surface water from their properties. Following various court rulings, separate charges for foul water and surface water generally have to be set and levied, subject to certain exceptions. This is known in Germany as the Gesplittete Abwassergeb\u00fchr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The surface water charge is based on the <strong>impermeable surface<\/strong> area of the property.
