Integrating CAIGOS GIS with the VIVAVIS HIGH-LEIT SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system significantly streamlines workflows during grid operations. Operators diagnose faults in HIGH-LEIT and then display them in CAIGOS GIS. This gives field technicians valuable topographic information about the fault location, enabling them to identify affected households easily using network tracing.
When a fault is diagnosed in SCADA, the operator initially knows only which section of the network contains the fault. Linking CAIGOS GIS with SCADA allows the exact fault location to be determined and displayed on a topographic map. The fault location, surrounding area and affected assets can then be assessed at a glance.
SCADA visualises switch states and transfers them to CAIGOS GIS. While SCADA focuses on visualising voltage states in the medium voltage network, CAIGOS GIS extends this visualisation to the low voltage network, down to individual house service connections.
The CAIGOS-HIGH-LEIT integration transfers HIGH-LEIT switch states to CAIGOS GIS. Whenever a state in the medium voltage network changes, SCADA sends the update to the GIS. CAIGOS GIS then updates its own switch states and can display up-to-date topological colouring extending into the low voltage network. SCADA also transfers a colour key with the switch states, allowing CAIGOS GIS to apply colours corresponding to those in SCADA when displaying the topology down to the low voltage network.
When responding to a fault, the integrated CAIGOS Viewer can be launched directly from SCADA together with the fault location information calculated in HIGH-LEIT, typically the distance from a known asset. The fault location is then shown in the correct position in the CAIGOS Viewer using a symbol.
