Key benefits

Foundation for digital workflows and network calculations

Quality-assured and verified network data provide the basis for network calculations and other downstream processes.

Technical codes and standards issued by DVGW, VDE and DWA

Drawing on best practice, we work with you to identify practical measures that support compliance with the relevant technical codes and standards.

Systematic network data checks and recommendations for improvement

Systematic network data analysis identifies plausibility, topology and attribute errors and helps resolve them.

Long-term, quality-focused data maintenance

Targeted enhancement of existing data capture specifications or development of new ones, with a focus on network data quality.

Hands-on workshops shaped by real-world experience

Practical CAIGOS workshops show how to implement quality assurance in line with relevant standards.

Make your network data future-ready!

Requirements for the quality of network documentation at utility and wastewater operators have been increasing for several years. The primary focus remains on providing reliable and accurate information on utility lines to prevent damage and ensure reliable utility and wastewater services at all times. Network data is also increasingly incorporated into a wide range of technical and commercial business processes.

Meaningful and reliable analysis for strategic and operational decision-making requires, among other things, a quality-assured network documentation data set. By minimising risks arising from poor-quality data and processes in need of optimisation, quality assurance also helps improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Standards-setting bodies in the wastewater, gas, electricity and drinking water sectors have also recognised the importance of quality assurance in network documentation and provide utility and wastewater operators with a systematic approach. The following technical codes and standards apply and, with the exception of the wastewater sector, are considered mandatory codes of practice:

• DVGW GW 130 (M) – Quality assurance in network documentation (November 2024)
• VDE application rule VDE-AR-N 4205 – Quality assurance in network documentation (June 2024)
• DWA-M 145-2 – Sewer information systems – Part 2: Quality requirements and quality assurance (April 2019)

CAIGOS GmbH provides practical support with introducing and implementing suitable quality assurance measures in line with the recommendations of the relevant industry associations.

How we support you

Workshop: Quality assurance in network documentation

In collaboration with the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW), the workshop outlines the requirements set out in the technical rules in the context of quality assurance measures in utility and wastewater companies. The workshop focuses on practical examples of how to implement the requirements of the technical rules in your company. It also outlines how CAIGOS GIS can be used for quality assurance of GIS data.

Topics

Quality assurance in network documentation in the context of standards and guidelines (DVGW speaker)

  • Current developments in technical rule-making
  • Data quality requirements for network documentation
  • Practical applications of quality assurance

Methods for sustainably improving network data quality

  • Guidance and practical examples for introducing a quality assurance system for capturing and maintaining network data
  • Establishing process-oriented network data optimisation (PNO) in accordance with the technical rules

Quality assurance tools in CAIGOS GIS

  • CAIGOS GISDB for calculating key metrics
  • Process optimisation using the CAIGOS 360° Dashboard
  • Tools in CAIGOS GIS for checking the quality of the current data set

Target groups

  • Companies and associations in the electricity, gas and water supply and wastewater disposal sectors
  • Network documentation staff
  • Staff responsible for quality management
  • GIS service providers working for CAIGOS customers, as well as partners of CAIGOS GmbH

Outcomes

  • You will be familiar with the technical rules and requirements for quality assurance in network documentation.
  • You will be familiar with methods and tools for improving the quality of your network documentation.
  • You will be able to develop your own ideas for quality assurance in network documentation within your company.

Organisation

The workshop is a full-day event lasting six hours.

It takes place at CAIGOS GmbH premises in Leipzig, Kirkel or Ingelheim, or online. An in-house workshop at the customer’s premises is also available on request.

The maximum number of participants is 12.

Analysis of your network data

Quality-assured network data is required, among other things, for using network calculation software or exchanging data with business software systems.

We assess the quality of your network data in CAIGOS GIS, taking the relevant data requirements into account. The data consistency analysis comprises extensive checks of the plausibility of attribute data, correct object relationships or rule-compliant topologies. We assess the extent to which all real-world objects to be captured are represented in accordance with the rules and specifications of the data model.

The results are presented in a solution concept that includes options for network data optimisation.

Creating or updating a data capture specification

The technical rules require network documentation to be captured and maintained using a data capture specification (for example, DVGW GW 120 (A) – Network documentation in utility companies, December 2021, p. 13).

Assessing data quality and optimising network data also require standards to be defined in advance in a data capture specification.

CAIGOS GmbH staff prepare a data capture specification tailored to your requirements for capturing network data in your CAIGOS GIS, or update an existing specification accordingly.

Introducing process-oriented network data optimisation (PNO)

Working with you, we develop approaches and options for introducing process-oriented network data optimisation. The current state of the network documentation and the associated work processes are recorded and subsequently evaluated with the aim of progressively improving data quality and ultimately establishing more efficient workflows within the company.

We also offer the introduction of process-oriented network data optimisation, together with the service modules described above, as a complete package.

We analyse your work processes, from surveying to completed network documentation. We identify options for process optimisation while taking the available resources into account.

Together, we define strategies and tasks for introducing process-oriented network data optimisation.

We bring everyone involved on board as we work towards quality-assured network documentation. In consultation with you, we engage with all those involved in the process or organise and deliver training.
