Capturing and documenting the underlying data required to recurring road levies

A road improvement contribution (Straßenausbaubeitrag) is a municipal levy charged towards the cost of certain improvement, renewal and drainage works on public roads.

Recurring road levies are governed by the municipal charges legislation of the relevant German federal state. They are distinct from development levies (Erschließungsbeiträge) levied under the German Federal Building Code (BauGB). Development levies relate to the initial construction of public roads, paths and squares, including associated drainage and lighting. Recurring road levies, by contrast, relate to subsequent renewal, improvement or extension works.

Depending on the applicable state legislation, local authorities may recover part of the eligible costs through one-off or recurring road levies. One-off contributions allocate costs to the properties liable in relation to a specific measure. Recurring levies spread the eligible costs across properties within a defined assessment area, reducing the immediate financial burden on individual property owners.

Where recurring road levies are used, CAIGOS Wiederkehrende Straßenausbaubeiträge (WKB) supports the efficient capture, management and documentation of the underlying data required for these processes.
